Covid Art 97: Starry starry night


Yes, he is a dandy The photograph appears to be from 1911. I paired him with a multi media drawing on paper using charcoal, graphite, pencils and erasure smudgings. The title is from Don McLean’s song.

Vincent Van Gogh died in 1891, at 37 years old. Had he lived to be 57, he might have gone out walking, taking in the country roads. In Richard Mabey’s book The Cabaret of Plants, I read that it was not uncommon in the 19th century for English people to walk 14 miles in the countryside, starting at lunch time, and returning after dark – for fun!
